Only three days left of 2018 before bring on 2019. There are a lot of things from the world of Comic Books, from Films, TV, and new streaming services are coming next year. As we will get things from Star Wars and Anime going forward into 2019
All things Marvel
2019 will be a giant year for all things Marvel comics in different mediums. The highly anticipated Avengers End Game film will wrap up over ten years of comic book movies story telling by Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios. On top of that we will learn or an idea of the future of Marvel Studios films after End Game. Epically with how the aftermath of End Game will set up Spider-Man: A Far from Home, the sequels of Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Gaurdians of the Galaxy, and Captain Marvel. With new announcements of Marvel studios movies.
Not to mentioned Marvel tv series Agent of Shields, with Cloak and Dagger season two, will be back in a big way, because Agent of Shields is the show that is always heavily effected by the direction of Marvel studios movies going to.Unfortunately I expect Netflix to cancel both Jessica Jones and Punisher because of the launch of Disney Plus that will be release sometime in the later of 2019
Marvel has a lot of big tv series going into Disney Plus streaming services such as Tom Huddleston’s Loki mini series, with other mini tv series such as Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, and Winter Soldier and Falcon series. Marvels tv and movie series of films will continue it’s success in both tv and movie mediums.
Marvel Comics has been mixed by from their comic book line besides their star wars comic book line, but next year Marvel will be introducing their next giant event crossover
Fox and Disney merger
Accoding to Kevin Feige who was on a recent interview on Playback which is a podcast interview on variety.com, who recently had Marvel studios Kevin Feige who did confirm they can’t think about X-Men and Fantastic Four from six months until now, after the Fox merger is fully complete. I believe thats because X-Men:Dark Phenoix film will be release by June and by July of 2019 will be hearing tons of rumored ideas of what Kevin Feige and his team of writers have for these iconic teams in the MCU.
Plus the future of Deadpool movies, I am sure we will be hearing a lot about on what will happen with that character and the future of Deadpool movies. That will be a giant question because Ryan Reynolds owns that character.
Marvel Comics Books
It has been a interesting year in Marvel Comic Books. A lot of the big name writers from Marvel have left to do something else and every year the Marvel comics have change many directions every year. Marvel Comics has a giant crossover story event coming that will change the comic books of Marvels superheroe world again. Keep and eye on the world of Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Fantastic Four, and Wolverine who I believe will be giants in 2019 of the comic book medium.
DC Comics and Warner Brothers
DC Comics and WB had a great rebounding year in all of their mediums after the 2017 Justice League film. They currently have the number one financial movie in the world with Aquaman. That’s great for business for Warner Brothers, because they will continue to make more DC Films in the future. 2019 I belive will be a bigger year for them because they continur to become better with everything they do. Their next DC Film will be Shazam this April. That is getting lots of positive and excitement after its first trailer was released at San Diego Comic-Con.
They are taking a giant leap with introducing a DC Comics elseworld movie in Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker film that is set to be release in October. The film has giant excitement around it, because it’s staring a great actor Joaquin Phoenix playing the Joker in his own movie, with a great actor in Robert DiNero and actress Zazie Beetz playing supporting roles in the film.
The Birds of Prey is rumored to start filming either January or early February with casting almost fully completed. Wonder Woman 84 already wrapped filming an is in post production. I am sure we will be getting tons of official photos from both films to build excitement.
I would tell everyone to pay attention to Matt Reeve Batman movie news as its Rumored to start filming by summer of 2019 since the script should be completed by the end of 2018 or early 2019. 2019 is Baman’s 80 years of existence and I expect we will be getting a official confirmation if Ben Affleck will be returning as Batman in Matt Reeves Batman film sometime next year. The news for the next Batman film will be heating up big time going into 2019, because that is the most anticipated comic book film to be released.
With DC Films going into a positive direction with Walter Hamada leading the direction as President of the DC Films for Warner Brothers, DC Films will be in great shape in years to come. DC Comics launch their streaming service last September and has slowly getting better but has yet to hit globally.
They have a giant hit with Titans from audiance and critics. The app should be evolving next year an will continue to get better with Young Justice, Doom Patrol, the highly anticipated Swamp Thing series. The DCU app will be firing on all cylinders in 2019 and should be a great ride to watch. The Arrowverse just ended 2018 with a successful crossover with elseworld and announce Crisis on Infinite Earth crossover next winter of 2019 that has a giant expectations and excitement for comic book fans. Greg Berlanti continues to succeed for DC and WB in their TV department.
HBO and WB will be introducing The Watchmen series that is rumored to be a sequel to The Watchmen graphic novel that has comic book fans excited to see what Damon Lindelof does with Watchmen. Greg Berlanti also will have Batwoman her own series within the Arrowverse sometime in the spring. Time will tell to see how it unfolds.
DC Comics books
DC had another successful year in the Comic book medium with Doomsday clock, Tom Kings Batman title, Scott Snyder’s Justice League and Dark Knight Metal series, and Brian Michael Bendis Superman stories have been a huge success in comic books.
How Doomsday clock unfolds in 2019 will be big to DC Comics future in comic books. With Batman celebrating 80 years of history they will be doing something big for Batman and his world. They have Detective Comics issue 1000 that will introduce the villain Arkham Knight from the Batman games. It will be a big year in the comic book medium for DC Comics.
Star Wars
I think Star Wars for 2019 will be either sink or swim for its entire franchise, because of the divided reaction to Last Jedi. I expect we will be hearing tons of Star Wars news going into Star Wars celebration in May of 2019 to please an insured Star Wars fans. I am sure more news of highly anticipated The Mandalorian tv series will be getting official news an information released. I expect a first trailer for The Mandalorian to be release at the celebration with the first full trailer of Episode Nine.
I believe the celebration is when we will get offical announcements to future Star Wars films after episode nine, with more news of the Clone Wars, with Cassian Andor series, and future t.v. series on the Disney Play app. It will definitely be a under the microscope year for Lucus Films, Kathleen Kennedy, and Disney regarding all things star wars.
Star Wars in Comic Books
If you haven’t read any of the star wars comic books from the Marvel line, I highly recommend to read them. The Darth Vader title written by Charles Soule is a must for all star wars fans, because it deals with an early Darth Vader after the events of Revenge of the Sith. The title goes in more character depth with Vader and his old painful wounds as Anakin Skywalker. The writing on the title is spot on.
Independent Comic Book news 2019
Pay attention to all things Spawn film announcements and news I am sure will happen next year. The last we heard a bout Spawn was from Todd McFarlane on the Collider channel. He mention they are still working on what the budget will be for the movie, an confirm Jamie Foxx and Jeremey Renner are set to be in the film. I expect we will have a release date and when it will go into full production.
Hellboy will be back in theaters with a reboot movie it will be either sink or swim for the movie because this is not the Hellboy movie audiences wants.
Power Rangers had a great successful year in the Comic books line thanks to Boom Comics. I am hoping we hear some big news for Power Rangers as the Shattered Grid storyline was a giant hit for the franchise series. Hopefully we have great news from Hasboro on their future of Power Rangers.
ANIME
I haven’t talk much anime, because I’m watch or read in small doses. I expect we will hear the future of Dragon Ball Super after the Broly movie is out. Netflix is working on a live action Cowboy Bebop which willbe mixed because of their past take on Death Note.
My Hero Academia season four will be release sometime next year and it will be interesting to see the direction the series goes. Heavy rumors of Bleach getting a revival series, because of the manga series is completed, and the finical success to the live action film might bring it back. I hope we get great news on Bleach, because I want to see the Blood War storyline. I know the Bleach live action sequel is in the works. It’s possible more news of all things Bleach will come to light in 2019.
Overall
I expect 2019 to be a giant year for all things pop culture. Hopefully 2019 will be bigger and better then the successful 2018 year we had in pop culture. My new years resolution is to always to do better than what you did last year. Happy New Year’s everyone!!
