PROS
The standout performances from the film is the supporting cast around Timothee Chalamet. Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and Stellan Skargard all did a great job in their performances. Their performances, and the writing of their characters carries the film.
I thought the standout performance was Stellan’s villain portrayal as Baron was fantastic. His performance as the cold hearted villain will make audience’s hate him. This version of Dune respect a lot of the source material but adds some changes.
Visually the film is beautifully done. It’s a spectacle film audience will enjoy in a theater. Audience will be into the action thriller in the last hour the film. The film is well written and does a good job making audiences care about the supporting cast.
CONS
The film is another Denis Villeneuve film that spends over an hour world building and character development. I found Timothee Chalamet’s performance plain and boring. He is The reason why The first hour of the film will be difficult to get through. The actor is not charismatic to be in a lead role this early in his career. As the lead it shows a lot because when he shares scenes with his co stars. They are the ones who are carries the film.
OVERALL: 7/10
The last hour and ten minutes will get audience attention as there is tons of action and excitement. The supporting cast is fantastic while Timothee Chalamet’s performance was a missed cast for the lead.
