Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter and a variety of new entertainment websites reported that Warner Brothers is making a new Superman movie, but it will be rebooted and produce by JJ Abrams and his production company Bad Robots. It was announce Ta-Nehisi Coates will write the new Superman Reboot scrip with Hannah Minghella who is another producer. According to Richard Newby from THR, the new reboot Superman movie will be portrayed by a black actor in the role. Check out the link below….

My Opinion
Base on the reaction from the many people out there from social media. The feeling is very mixed about seeing another Superman movie reboot even with or without JJ Abrams on board the project. Most fans I have seen express their disappointment and tired of another Superman reboot movie because the fans have been screaming for a Superman Sequel staring Henry Cavil since Man of Steel. With the Justice League Snyder Cut coming out less than a month away and with the high phrase from fans of Superman and Lois tv series, I believe this was poorly time to announce the project, because their is no script yet, no director, and actor attached to this project, but this was meant to get announce now before the Snyder cut comes out next month because they know fans will be screaming their lungs out for a Henry Cavil Superman sequel, after the Snyder Cut comes out. This means there is a 50% chance of this movie happening. Warner Brothers has done this before. We seen Warner Brothers announce a DC film projects without a director or actor attach to the project, and it blows up in their faces.
Even though Richard Newby from THR is reporting from his sources that the reboot will feature a black Superman. We haven’t receive an official announcement on that yet, because there is no script written yet for the announced reboot. However base on WarnerMedia’s chairman Toby Emmerich’s quote from Statement and Act “Ta-Nehisi Coates’s Between the World and Me opened a window and changed the way many of us see the world,” added Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group. “We’re confident that his take on Superman will give fans a new and exciting way to see the Man of Steel.” This quote from the chairman might quietly confirm the new Superman will focus on a Black Superman with an entire new mythology for the film than following the main comic book source of Superman/Clark Kent. Ta-Nehisi Coates who is writing the script for the new Superman movie did write Steve Rodgers Captain America for Marvel Comics a few years ago. He wrote a good Captain America story that is 12 issues long that comic book fans can check out. It’s possible the report from THR is missed leading because Ta-Nehisi Coates is a black man so THR assumption is that he’s writing a black superman. A reminder there is no script for the new Superman movie. JJ Abrams probably gave a pitch back to Emmerich after he and Warner Brothers have been up his ass about doing something with Superman after paying him and his production company Bad Robots a half a billion dollars.
Warner Brothers is planning to introduce the DC’s multiverse starting with the Flashpoint film staring Ezra Miller’s Flash and will co-star Michael Keaton’s return as Batman, with new cast member Sasha Caste as Supergirl. This might be there way for Warner Brothers to introduce a black Superman since it’s been long rumored going back since 2018, when Henry Cavil was reported out as Superman and Warner Brothers wants to reboot Superman again, but with a black Superman staring Michael B. Jordan. This was going to be a cash grab base on the success of the Black Panther movie earlier that year. Warner Brothers came out with a statement around that time, because of the huge backlashed towards them that year. Many fans still do not trust their decision making. The two black Superman from the comics was Calvin Ellis who was created by Grant Morrison while he was writing his DC big event Final Crisis story back in 2008. Val Zod who was another black Superman, who made his debut in DC’s Earth 2 comic books. He was created by Tom Taylor.
Despite the two black Supermen from the comic books, I get the sense this will be something brand new while using some of JJ Abrams Superman Flyby script. The Superman Flyby script was a Superman movie that change some of the mythology from Superman. Like he left Krypton because of a civil war broke out on Krypton and he was sent to Earth to hide from his evil uncle named Kata-Zor. This script had a lot of Sy-Fy stuff that anyone can find concept stuff, and it felt like less of a Superman movie in my opinion. Fans can read the script that is out there on the internet. I can see JJ bring some of his ideas from his Superman Flyby script back into this version of his Superman movie.

I heard the news while reading Icon comics on the DC Infinite app. For those who don’t know DC Comics and Warner Brothers already has a black Superman in Icon from Milestone Comics line. He was created by the late Dwayne McDuffie, and Mark Bright in the 90’s. Icon has his own mythology that fits with what is currently going on in our time. Icon was a character who came to earth in 1834 and was raised as a slave with his adoptive mom. Icon lives through four generations leading into the 90’s as a conservatives Lawyer in Dakota name Augustus Freeman. He meets a teen name Raquel who tries to rob Augustus in his home but witness his super powers when going after her and her friends. She comes back to visit him and convinces him that he needs to be more than a lawyer and to be an Icon which is the name he uses to become a superhero. Raquel becomes his teen sidekick to help him navigate in the superhero stuff, and shows him how the black community is not treated the way the white community is treated especially by the police.
Dwayne and Mark introduces a very good story of their Superman that is not from the same shadow from the Shuster and Siegel Superman. Icon and Rocket would be money for Warner Brothers instead of race swapping Superman in his next movie. Sadly they are a bunch of fuck’n morons over there if they new what they were siting on with the Milestone Comics they have. Go watch the show Entourage on HBO or Amazon to get an idea of how movie and TV people in the industry really thinks, and that is Warner Brothers.
My Final Thoughts
The reboot Superman has a chance to be good but it will be a hard sell to the generations of Superman fans who do care about this character and his mythology if this is rumored direction is true. If the rumors are true, I believe this has the potential to be another Josh Trank Fantastic Four bomb. Thankfully fans has a good Superman show in Superman and Lois on the CW to watch at least for the first two seasons before they fuck that up like they do with every superhero show on their network, after two seasons.
