REVIEW: The Mandalorian Season Two Finale

If you haven’t watch the chapter 16 of The Mandalorian season 2 finale. Go to Disney Plus watch it now! This is an episode fans like myself will be talking about this finale for a very long time. So much to talk about in the season finale of The Mandalorian. Since everyone is talking about this finale all over the world I will be spoiling the finale so do not read this my SPOILER REVIEW of the season two’s finale.

PROS

Lots of great moments came out of the season two finale, and I will start with the Boba Fett fight against Koska Reeve played by Sasha Banks. One of the things I took away from Bo-Katan’ and Koska was they know who Boba Fett is and his voice reminds them of the pain and suffering they went through with storm troopers. Koska got a few good shots at Boba Fett who looked a little slow but bounce back against a train Mandalorian solider. I would love to learn Koska’s backstory and how she got to where she came from. Hopefully in season three of the Mandalorian will get a little more backstory from Koska. It was a great action scene between the two of them.

If you were someone who was mixed about Moff Gideon played by Giancarlo Esposito. This is the episode that hope change your opinion of him because he is easily one of the best villains in the Star Wars mythology. Giancarlo’s performance was very good and he will have you believe he is being honest with when really he is looking every way to defeat you as Din Djarin found out. His scenes with Din was one of the biggest spots in the season finale.

I enjoyed the all female character fight scene, because it happened naturally even though it was purposely set up. Each character shows how worthy they are as characters and why they are characters who have overcome challenges to get to this point. Watching each one fight for different reasons and their hate for the Empire for what they lost and the sacrifice they have made to get to this point. Gina Carano, Katee Sackoff, Ming-Na Wing, and Sasha Banks did a traffic job showcasing that Star Wars is for everyone of all different backgrounds.

The fight between Din and Moff is one of the best duels I have seen in recent memory, because their was a lot of built up within the last couple of episodes that these two will have some kind of duel, before the end of season two. The payoff worked and I was hooked and enjoying their battle scene as it was earned. Showcasing the Manadalorian’s skills against either Jedi’s and Empires shows how powerful their skills is.

I enjoyed the twist reveal about how the Dark Saber needs to be earned instead of given to someone. Hardcore fans are already complaining about the new rule on how to earned the Dark Saber after Rebels revealed it was handed to Bo-Katan by Sabine instead of her earning it. I know people are calling this a huge plot hole but keep in mind things happen for a reason and plus after the sequel trilogy and Boba Fett mysteriously is a live without explanation after he died in Return of the Jedi. In my opinion continuity is thrown out of the window with Disney running Star Wars.

Now that Din has the dark saber and is aware that people will fight him to earn the dark saber to rule Mandalor is a great starting plot point for him for season three which means we will see those awkward moments between him an Bo-Katan. Now that his mission is complete it will be refreshing to see Din progress in something new. Now that he is comfortable taken his helmet off it shows how much his character progress since season two.

My favorite part from Disney Star Wars was the last ten minutes of The Mandalorian season two finale, because the real Luke Skywalker makes his first appearance since Return of the Jedi. I am not counting the sequel trilogy of his appearance, because that was not Luke Skywalker, but that is a story for another day. Showcasing how powerful Luke has become and how much of his lightsaber skills have excelled since Return of the Jedi was amazing and I had goosebumps watching him save Din and his crew and to bring back hope to all Star Wars fans to remind us how much we love Star Wars before the garbage sequels completely ruin our hope for anything related to Disney Star Wars. I love seeing that green lightsaber again in action because that green lightsaber symbolize Luke growth and challenges he has overcome from being a farm boy to becoming a Jedi Knight and Jedi Master.

CONS

My least favorite thing from this episode was the opening scene. It was like Jon Favreau was trying to do what he did last season with the two sand troopers who beat up Grogu who we called Baby Yoda at the time. The scene was never needed just t fill some space.

Yes the CGI was not great on Luke’s face. I think Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Peyton Reed were trying to figure out what Luke would look like five years after the Return of Jedi since he would be in his late twenties or early thirties. He did look a combination of Sebastian Stan and Mark Hamill. Luke scene with Din and Grogu was short so it didn’t bother me, and after re-watching that scene three times now I am getting used to the CGI look because it was meant for Luke to look little older wiser and confident in himself since Return of the Jedi. For those who making comparison to movies with TV keep in mind each episode has a budget and tv will have different CGI quality compared to the movies.

OVERALL: 10/10

In my opinion how do you top Ashoka Tano’s episode? Bring back Luke Skywalker and showcase how powerful he is and how much he means to so many people around the world. Luke was our entry to Star Wars he is the Rocky of the franchise and even though his story was told he should always be treated with importance and respect after his story is told just like Rocky in the Creed movie series. Luke’s appearance brings “A New Hope” for Star Wars fans and a bright future to look forward to in 2021 after an emotional tough 2020 for everyone. This episode brought hope and made everyone come together again thanks to Jon Favreau, and Dave Filoni and for Walt Disney keeping Kathleen Kennedy out of decision making for The Mandalorian, because this show succeed without her interferences. Looking forward to Ashoka, Mandalorian Season 3, The Book of Boba Fett, and Rangers of the New Republics because Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau will be in-charge of these new series.
