Surprising news was dropped today thanks to Borys Kit from The Hollywood Reporter who reported this evening that Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) will be in Spider-Man 3 staring Tom Hollands, as Spider-Man with Zendaya (MJ), Marisa Tomei ( Aunt May), Jacob Batalon (Ned),Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson), and Jamie Foxx returning as Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 staring Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man. Borys reported that Doctor Strange will Peter’s new mentor going forward in the MCU. Cumberbatch is supposedly filming his Doctor Strange sequel Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness this month and Spider-Man 3 is expected to be shooting this month as well. With the Multiverse becoming the next big thing in comic book movies in Marvel Studios and Warner Brothers the multiverse connection is becoming clear as how Jamie Foxx’s Electro will connect with this version of Spider-Man and how the fallout of Multiverse of Madness will tie into Spider-Man 3. Check out the article below.
I know THR has Doctor Strange as the next mentor for Peter Parker, but I believe fans like myself are tired of Spider-Man having mentors in the MCU. What makes Spider-Man popular appeal is that he is a hero who figures things out on his own without someone holding his hand. He’s not trained to be hero like Batman, and he wasn’t born to be a hero like Superman. He’s a boy who was accidentally given superpowers and he has to figure out his own path on how to be the hero he needs to be. It’s why Peter makes so much mistakes as a superhero.
It’s been long rumored and was reported in 2013 by the old Latino Review site that Doctor Strange has been groom or plan to be the main face of the MCU in phase three and beyond. With Doctor Strange showing up in Thor Ragnarok, after his solo film, and having a main role in Infinity War and a path the torch moment with Iron Man in End Game. His role in the MCU is becoming bigger as it is very clear the long rumored is confirmed Doctor Strange/ Benedict Cumberbatch will be in the RBJ/Iron Man role as the main face going forward in the MCU. Here is the video from Latino Review made seven years ago. To confirm the long rumor of Doctor Strange role long term after RBJ’s Iron Man.
Even though Latino Review did not see Spider-Man in the picture it is clear Kevin Feige is sticking with his original plans for Doctro Strange to be in the Iron Man/RBJ role going forward. What was not clear is where will the stories go with Doctor Strange as the new face of the MCU. That is already becoming clear with the Multiverse becoming the next big wave in phase four and beyond.
The next phase of MCU movies will focus a lot of multiverse stories and cosmic stories in phase four through phase six. We already seen the first teaser trailer of Wandavision and even tho it is trippy it has a lot of multiverse elements revealed in Scarlet Witch’s Disney Plus series. Elizabeth Olsen will be reprising her role in Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness sequel. Don’t be surprise (SPOILER) if Wandavision unleashed the multiverse in her series and the fall out begins with Doctor Strange cleaning up her mess in his sequel.
I am curious to how all the Doctor Strange setups from his sequel, and his featured role in Spider-Man will set up the next Avengers movie. Obviously I think it will be a while before we see a new Avengers movie. Kevin Feige is wearing many hats right now in all of Marvel media platforms from movies, comic books, and now TV on Disney Plus. He has said last year that he has plans for Marvel movies in the next twenty plus years. With now getting the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and the variety characters returning to Marvel Studios from Netflix stuff. I am curious to know how much of their plans change since then, but I don’t think much really change if it was reported that Doctor Strange was grooming to be the new face of the MCU after Iron Man.
It’s great we are receiving some exciting news with Marvel Studios since they have been very quiet for most of the year. Obviously when Marvel Studios is quiet it’s because they are planning for something huge an will surprise everyone when we at least expect it. I think the seeds from the multiverse was already planted starting with the end of Spider-Man Far From Home with J.K Simmons returning as Jonah Jameson and with Sony’s Morbius staring Jared Leto. If people forgot Michael Keaton’s Vulture made a surprise appearance at the end of the full Morbius trailer for the movie. I guess looking back at those clues revealed a multiverse connection for the next phase of MCU movies centered around Doctor Strange in the Iron Man centeral role going forward.
Wandavision I am sure we will have a lot of surprises in the series and I would not be surprise if we see Doctor Strange makes an appearances by the end of her series to tie into his sequel film. The MCU Disney Plus series will tie into the films.
