Disney D23 Recap

Lots of big announcement from Disney regarding Marvel, Pixtar, and Star Wars from Disney’s D23 including some Disney stuff at the convention this weekend. I will recapping the highlights from D23, that is focus on Marvel and Star Wars only.

MARVEL COMICS

The first big announcements from Marvel Studios is that we will have a Moon Knight, Miss Marvel, and She Hulk live action tv series on the Disney Plus. The She Hulk series was rumored sometime after the Avengers End Game with Mark Ruffalo returning as the Hulk/Bruce Banner for the Disney Plus Streaming services. This is exciting news for a ll Marvel fans and especially Moon Knight fans. Who’ve been patiently waiting for Marvel Studios to do something with vigilante character. I am exciting to see Miss Marvel/ Mikala Khan, but I was hoping she would be better in a big screen movie instead of the plus series. But beggars can’t be choosers I am happy they are doing something outside of the animation medium.

The other news related to Marvel’s Disney plus series is that Sharon Carter/Emily Van Camp will be returning in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier tv series. Kat Dennings from Thor Franchise will be reprising her character Darcy Lewis, and Randell Park from Ant-Man franchise will be reprising his role as FBI agent Jimmy Woo in the WandaVision series from Disney plus streaming services. Wyatt Russell will be part of the Falcon and Winter Soldier series as John Walker known as US Agent from the Captain America world from the Marvel Comics. Check out the breaking news from Variety about the announcements. https://variety.com/2019/tv/news/emily-vancamp-kat-dennings-randall-park-will-reprise-marvel-disney-plus-series-1203312908/?yptr=yahoo

Tom Holland and Kevin Feige comments about the future of Spider-Man movies

Tom Holland and Kevin Feige did comment about Spider-Man’s future while promoting Onward with Chris Pratt. Tom Holland did speak with Entertainment Weekly, here is his quotes regarding the break up of Disney and Sony over Spider-Man.

“Basically, we’ve made five great movies,” he says, referring to his appearances as Spidey in MCU. “It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds?”

“But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life,” Holland continues. “It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.” – Tom Holland

Obviously he has one picture deal on his contract to play Spider-Man and he cannot get out of his deal with Sony as he was aware of the potential fall out between Sony and Disney when he was cast. He declines to do Spider-Man 3 with Sony and without Disney Sony can sue him for breach of contract. Even though he unfollowed Sony from Instagram. He is taking the professional route as he should be.

Kevin Feige also comment to Entertainment Weekly regarding the future of Spider-Man movies after the break up with Sony. Here is what Kevin Feige said about the future of Spider-Man movies.

“I’m feeling about Spider-Man gratitude and joy,” Feige told EW. “We got to make five films within the MCU with Spider-Man: two standalone films and three with the Avengers. It was a dream that I never thought would happen. It was never meant to last forever. We knew there was a finite amount of time that we’d be able to do this, and we told the story we wanted to tell, and I’ll always be thankful for that.” – Kevin Feige

We get our first look of the Eternal’s cast in their suits on a poster for the Eternals movie with the cast making an appearances. It is announce that Kit Harrington who is well known for Jon Snow from Game of Thrones will be part of the Eternals cast. He is set to play Black Knight from the Etrnals mythology created by Jack Kirby. Kit will be reuniting with Richard Madden from Game of Thrones who is playing .

I believe the Eternals is going to be a huge hit with fans because it is a whole new world fans of never seen before. Audiences like myself look for movies to show us a new world to escape from. It is why we love movies. I think Eternals movie will be something special especially with the cast they assembled for this movie.

Marvel’s What IF?

Disney Plus revealed more information on their animated series Marvel’s what If series. The series will focus on what if possibilities that might have change the Marvel Cinematic l Universe. The first episode focus on Peggy Carter taking the Super Solider serum instead of Steve Rogers and becomes Captain Britain. Black Widow 2020 footage and first look at New Suit.

Fans from the D23 had a chance to get a first look at Black Widow/ Scarlet Johansson kicking ass in her teaser trailer from D23. Here is her first look for her suit in her own movie.

D23 presented a poster for her movie, as the main villain will be Taskmaster.

Marvel additional Announcements for the MCU

The sequel to the first Black Panther movie will return on May 6, 2022 and will be part of Phase 5. Ryan Cooglar will be back as the director for the sequel with everyone from the first movie set to come back. It is not confirm if Michael B. Jordan will return for the sequel.

STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN

We finally get our official first look of Star Wars The Mandalorian TV series that will be release on November 12th of the Disney Plus streaming services. I am star wars out when it comes to the movies, after The Last Jedi, but I am very excited for the TV stuff Disney will be doing on the Disney Plus for Star Wars. The Mandalorian is set to take place after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The Mandalorian follows the travails of a lone gunfighter played by Pedro Pascal, in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. Jon Faverau is the lead show runner and has said The Mandalorian is for the older Star Wars fans.

Ewan McGregor is back as Obi-Wan Kenobi!!

It was finally official at D23 on Friday with Ewan McGregor coming out from D23 to announce he will return as Obi Won from the prequels in a standalone series that will start filming sometime in the new year of 2020. Nothing else was official of what the premise will be about.

Rogue One spin-off

D23 it was announce the Rogue One spin-off will start filming for the Disney Plus sometime in the new year at London in 2020. The spin-off will focus on the adventures of Cassian Andor and K-2SO. The premise will before Rogue One obviously since their conclusion end in Rogue One.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Returns in February 2020

Nothing else was announce for the Clone Wars series other than we will get a great showdown with Darth Maul vs Ahsoka base on the picture above.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Episode 9

D23 release a brand new poster for the 9th and final Skywalker saga of the Star Wars franchise. More news is surfacing from D23 is that fans witness footage of the next trailer of The Rise of Skywalker. The trailer had shots of Rey, Fin and Po with Chewy and the droids in different scenes. We see the old disfigured Darth Vader helment coming out of a ice container for preservation. Towards the end of the teaser Rey tells Fin she has to go alone its to dangerous. The end of the teaser present a darkside Rey wearing a hood and cloth, and wielding a Darth Maul double light saber. Emperor Palpatine says something to Rey before revealing the double light saber. It is going to be one of the biggest talk about things from the 2nd trailer.

When hearing the news coming out of D23 from the footage release exclusively at D23. I’m not surprise Disney is giving fans a little bit of the reveal from Rise of the Skywalker as they hear it loud in clear that Last Jedi was giant mixed bag from the audience. The Last Jedi failed to reach Disney’s expectations with financial box office numbers. I am sure the two second shot will be in the next trailer for Rise of Skywalker. Rise of Skywalker is not generating a lot of buzz because of how bad fans viewed Last Jedi, and like many people out there I too did not like Last Jedi. This reminds me of how Luke said it’s time for the Jedi’s to end, at the end of the first teaser from Last Jedi and everyone lost their minds trying solve what that means, which meant nothing by the end of The Last Jedi.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Disney had a lot announcements from this year from their D23. So much announcements could easily rival this years San Diego Comic Con in terms of big news from Star Wars and Marvel alone. Disney announce many new movies for the Disney Plus when it is release November 12th. If you are a big Disney fan this is another one of those exciting times. D23 presented many new things for the Disney Plus that can easily rival this year’s San Diego Comic-Con in my opinion.
