The last episode of Game of Thrones concluded, after 8 seasons and a two year wait for the final season to finally aired. With a divided audience after episode 4 and episode 5. Does t the finale episode of Game of Thrones titled “The Iron Throne,” wrap up everything for one of the most polarized tv series in pop culture? (Minor Spoilers Below)
PROS
I definitely liked Jon Snow and Tyrion regretting to be siding or supporting Daenerys, because they have been told by many characters who are close to them not to trust her. This episode felt very much a Tyrion Lanniester centric episode as he had a lot of screen time, and in my opinion has been the unofficial main character of the Game of Thrones tv series.
The moments with Jon Snow reuniting with Ghost and petting him will please fans. The dragons reacting upsettingly to the end of Daenerys is sad but it’s a way to present how team Dany fans feels through out season 8.
For a lot of fans who have a lot of fan favorite characters who are still alive will enjoy this episode because it feels like characters such Sansa, Bran, Brienne, Davos, Sam, and many more are all rewarded in some form for surving the world of Game of Thrones.
I did enjoy Sansa’s part in the finale as she one of my highlights and how much she has evolve to what she has become.
CONS
Since season 8 was very short and fast paced. The finale did not have impactful moments like previous seasons. The finale felt like it was missing something important that made the show a popular hit in the first place.
I was not a fan of who became the new ruler of Westeros, because he was character many fans were not invested in and it did not make sense to me in my opinion. The time jump was something I didn’t like either, because it’s one of the issues that has hurt this series in this Season and in 7.
I felt that the producers David Benioff and D.B Weiss had no clue on how to conclude a lot of characters stories, as I felt some of them should’ve died in previous episodes going as far back as Battle for Winterfell, then have them hang around for no story direction in the finale.
OVERALL 7/10
The series finale had a lot of surprises, sad good byes, and new beginings for our beloved characters. The series finale in my opinion will not feel like a satisfied conclusion to one of the most popular tv series of all time for fans. I do feel it is a unsettle conclusion but the best David Benioff and D.B Weiss can make.
I know David Benioff and D.B Weiss is getting a lot of heat from fans, but George RR Martin not completing the full storied novels a head of schedule like it was attended, when season 1 went into production. George should be getting more than half the heat as well. If George’s story was completed before Season 7 went into production we would’ve had a better storied conclusion for Game of Thrones, with a full 10 episodes and our favorite characters receiving a better fit conclusion, than the one we got.
I know David Benioff and D.B Weiss are on record as communicating Martin on how the story is supposed to conclude with some of the characters, but it was clear David and D.B had to fill in a lot of blanks that Martin has yet to successfully figure out for a lot of his characters in book 6 and 7.
